How The Wine Racks Are Made
We take great care selecting suitable woods from various trusted suppliers. Suppliers range from country house estates, regional wood yards and reclamation yards. All our Suppliers appreciate our products and realise what is required to make each wine rack a successful piece of art.
The wood is carefully stored in our warehouse until required, store times vary depending on size and time of year the wood is harvested. When the wood is required it is treated and begins its journey to becoming a wine rack.
Each wine rack is different and it can take between four to eight weeks to complete, dependant on wood availability. We take great care and attention to detail, to ensure the best results available.
Wine racks can be made to order – specific woods can be requested and we will do our best to locate a suitable piece for you. Oak beams for house renovations with holes already in place are a popular choice and are available on request. (An inbuilt wine rack, both feature beam and rack!)
As a general guide the darker wine racks are produced from reclaimed oak beams. These beams are around several hundred years old and have potentially been used within an old property. Consequently when produced into a wine rack the wood is well seasoned and further drying is not an issue. As a general rule these generally do not alter from their original state.
Following on, the paler wine racks are produced from oak. As our wine racks are solid wood, and the oak is semi-seasoned, moisture is present within the wood. Due to this fact, the drying out process is continuing and the wine rack will continue to alter to its surroundings. Cracking and splitting is common in this style and many people enjoy the originality this brings to their specific wine rack.
All wine racks need to be nurtured! Wine racks produced from semi seasoned woods may dry out over a period of months or years and colours may darken. Purchasers will be advised as to what product the wine rack has been finished with and recommend products to apply at a later date if necessary.
To complete the individuality of our wine racks each one is numbered using a lead stamp and a record of each one is held on file – ensuring all are totally unique.
